The Images that choose us - SoulcollageⓇ and dicovering lost pieces of ourselves
How do you tend to your heart and body in a world with demands and processes increasingly geared towards keeping you both addictively and anxiously in your head?
I don’t mean exercise that helps you ‘let off steam’ caused by the stress you are under.
Or escapism into entertainment with big emotional catharsis built in.
I mean finding ways of self-connection that bring you deeply into your life force and your presence as a being with capacity for experiencing depth, wonder and choice.
As the news gets weirder and weirder, and divisive forces do their best to make us fear each other, this is work I have brought into the centre of my life.
The tools in The Soul Shed are what I write about here, and this time I want to talk about SoulCollage® — an intuitive creative process birthed by Seena Frost, and shared with me by Linda Woolfson, one of twelve international trainers Seena shared it with directly.
I trained as a facilitator in the months after Seena’s death in 2016, ten years ago. In these years since, I have found this simple process to be one of the most powerful ways I know to recover lost pieces of ourselves.
It makes possible a kind of soul retrieval.
Last weekend, almost ten years to the day of my training, I had the great honour of sharing SoulCollage® with Enneagram Sweden at their annual autumn retreat. I shared the healing spiral built into the intelligence of the enneagram symbol, and we explored its possibilities together in the woodland at Rönninge Gård which was busy Septembering with aplomb. The collaging process was one of the ways we integrated all the insights that came.

Next weekend, on my substack I’ll be sharing another post in the series exploring these steps.
Here today, I want to celebrate the part that Seena’s process played in our adventure, bringing our three centres online in a very wonderful way.
Images connect with us in multiple ways.
The arresting nature of corresponding with an image intentionally is a shortcut into your presence. You cannot encounter it in the past or future.
You might like to try this simple activity. Take in this array of images:
Which image is making an impression on you right now? which is pulling you towards itself?
Allow this to happen, so that the other images recede and your attention stays with the one that chose you.
Notice where the energetic charge is within you, and stay with it.
It might be a strong attraction in the area of your belly. There might be sensations. Stay with them too. Allow your breathing to join you, so that your body can be with you more fully as sensation touches you.
It might be that you are experiencing something in your heart. A feeling arises as an emotional wave, carrying associations, meaning and memories. Allow this to unfold — and allow your breathing to join you as emotion moves through you.
It might be connections firing in your curious, open mind. A kind of inspiration, as though the image carries a direct message for you. Be with this possibility, and breathe into it, so that your body can ground these ideas.
You might like to journal with this experience while it is fresh.
Browsing images
Now imagine having an abundance of imagery to lay out and browse, looking for the connections that call to you. Imagine a gently facilitated process of collaging with the imagery that moved you, and then corresponding with the wisdom this collage — this thing you have brought into being — has to share with you.
It is something like intuitively creating your own oracle, and then listening to its guidence.
Seena described collage in this beautiful way:
“Collage is a metaphor for any discovering, gathering and reweaving of energy bits already formed and present in the universe. A new and personal creation can be made from the ever-present divine chaos of images all around us. Just choose, assemble, name and then inhabit your SoulCollage® cards.”
- SoulCollage® Evolving, Seena Frost.
This is what I would love to share with you — whether that’s just you, you and a friend, or you and a group of like-minded souls.
Ten years of sharing Seena’s gift to the world has taught me to trust the journey that one inner yes can begin.
If you would like to, message me or book a call about SoulCollage® at The Soul Shed, and let’s find time between the busy to resource you in this way.
